Away for the day is Wynn Park’s private Adult Day Program designed for adults 55 years or older (age exceptions may be made for individuals with Dementia). Our program is an opportunity for the participants to engage in meaningful activities that stimulate them physically, cognitively and socially. Our program also offers respite for caregivers, knowing they can depend on us to care for their loved ones.

Cost

There may be funding available through Continuing Care to help with the cost of the program, please call 1-800-225-7225 to see if you are eligible (Caregiver Benefit, Supportive Care, etc.).

  • $90.00 per day
  • Program runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-3:30.
  • Payment for the month is due at the beginning of each month. Payment will be in the form of Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD).

Our Program Includes

A safe and secure environment with friendly, engaging staff consisting of recreation care workers, with LPN/RN’s available on site. We provide stimulating activities throughout the day (tailored to each individual) as well as two snacks, and a dietician approved hot lunch, cooked on site.

Away for the Day consists of a full day of planned programs. Our program activities and events are designed with a holistic approach intended to strengthen, promote, and encourage important areas of daily living such as:

Physical

Exercises and games that promote the benefits of movement.

Intellectual

Activities that provide mental stimulation and promote brain health.

Social

One on one and group conversation as well as musical activities.

Environmental

Outings, gardening and walks in nature, weather permitting.

Emotional

Reminiscing and activities of daily living to boost confidence and self-esteem.

Participant Criteria

In order to attend our program, participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be at least 55 years old (age exceptions may apply for individuals who have early onset Alzheimer’s Disease or vascular type Dementia)
  • No smoking
  • No evidence of behaviours that would put the individual, staff and/or other participants at risk, or behaviours that will disrupt the program. (i.e. sexually inappropriate behaviour, verbal/physical aggression)
  • Will not wander excessively
  • Able to follow verbal instructions
  • Toilets themselves, must be able to transfer to and from toilet independently or with minimal assistance x1 person
  • Able to feed themselves
